Flowers on my mind

The women in my life keep asking me what kind of flowers there will be. It's funny how that's usually the first question I get. Flowers are important. Roses have been my  favorite. They are everywhere, I know, but they bloom all year-long and last a long time throughout the day. Simple elegance. I have this guide about flowers that show you which ones are in season...it's very helpful! Plus, my favorite flowers are all in season during the Spring time. Go figure.

The tradition of carrying flowers came from the belief of warding away evil spirits with herbs (even wheat). Another one I heard stemmed from the 1800's when the bride would carry roses to hide the aroma from not bathing daily. I'm so thankful I live in the 21st century! Superstition or perfume, it has become a tradition that we don't really think about. Every little detail of a wedding can have so much history and meaning behind it. I love researching these kinds of things. Remember how the bride is supposed to toss her bouquet? That one came from England as it was believed the bride could pass down good fortune to others. Guests would try to obtain pieces of fabric off her dress and even try to take some of her flowers. So, in an attempt to get away, the bride would toss her bouquet to a lucky maiden who catches it...and we all know what that means!
