I love hearing about other cultures, customs, and countries in general. The people of India are so different than us and our little world in Riverside, California (or wherever). Not to get off topic, they believe in arranged marriages. Their motto is you love who you marry, you don't marry who you love. It sounded weird, especially in the English language, but there is something sweet and alluring about it. I still can't figure it out. I personally wouldn't want an arranged marriage, but it is fascinating that Indian men and women do not date. They usually meet their chosen spouse (picked by their families) a week before or the day of their wedding. It is romantic in the sesnse of surprise, mystery, and growing to know each other day by day. Of course, I am sure this probably doesn't apply to all Indians.
I sure would hope my family knew me better than myself! Also, public display of affection in their culture is something that is not allowed for men and women in India. It is valued to be kept in the bedroom. I think it's sweet that they are protective of this area. Maybe a little to protective in my mind, but I see the point!

Indian weddings, if I can recall, last up to a week long.
All I know is that one day is enough for me.
This wedding is going to be a labor of love!

P.S. Getting a beautiful henna on my hands and feet is definitely on my list of things to do before I die! :)
Also, I heard from an Indian man (whom my sister talked to) that henna is a design on the body that is not only for outward, aesthetic beauty, but for the bride and groom's wedding night. They are to find a specific, unique symbol on their bodies that was painted--but the man chuckled and said this is just an excuse to ease their anxiety for their first night together. Anyway, interesting stuff to know!
